Word problems Week 8
Peter buys a t-shirt for $14.75. He pays with a $20 note. How much change should he receive? $5.25
Alison buys a carton of milk for $3.99 and a loaf of bread for $2.89. How much does she spend altogether? $6.88
Alex’s dad spends $3.75 every day for a cup of coffee. How much does Alex’s dad spend on coffee every week? $26.25

Volcanoes
Volcanoes
Volcanoes are a mountain or hill, Typically conical having a crater or vent through which lava, rock fragments and gas are or have been erupted from. Volcanoes are found along tectonic plates, erupt and there have been many famous eruptions throughout the years.
Volcanoes are found along tectonic plates. The volcanoes form when the tectonic plates collide and one of the plates end up moving/get pushed under the other which produces the volcanoes. The hot magma will rise from the mantle at the mid-ocean ridges which push the plates apart. The molten rock then rises up and erupts on the surface which builds up a volcano.
what the volcano eruption is it can also be very destructive and dangerous.
In conclusion There have been lots and lots of volcano explosions throughout the years. And they can cause lots of damage.

For this we had to pick one of the locations and get the flag,write what the place is, the population and the climate. I found this activity interesting seeing all the different flags and finding out the population and climates.

This week on Monday we had science we were doing an experiment with balloons. We blew up the balloon, rubbed it on our head and then put it next to the running water. This activity was quite fun and I enjoyed it...You should try it.

When do most carnivals take place? Why do you think this time of year is chosen? They take place mostly in February Because it is closer to Easter Sunday.
What does the word ‘flamboyant’ mean? Strikingly, Bold or brilliant. As in it could be bright colours like the rainbow
Where do they celebrate Mardi Gras and what is an important symbol of this carnival? Mardi Gras is in New Orleans and the important symbol is the king cakes.
Why do you think Brazil is sometimes referred to as a ‘melting pot’ of culture? The Carnival in Brazil is not just a fun celebration but it is a chance to experience the diverse culture of country
Why is carnival so important to Brazil? Because it is time where you can experience the culture of the country
What is different about carnival season Germany and most other countries? Because it starts in November and also the people dress up even at work and school.
Why do you think carnivals are so popular across the world and attract so many visitors? Because they celebrate culture and also are very fun and flamboyant.
Why do you think people give up something for lent? Because it is preparing for the death and resurrection of Jesus
The text says that carnivals are often characterised by masks, flamboyant costumes, music and colourful floats and parades. What does this mean? That Carnivals are very colourful celebrations and they are very creative and a happy celebration.

I am at the carnival. I see so much colour there are so many costumes and masks everyone is so happy there are so many floats. Everyone is dancing and singing around. Everyone is walking around there are so many different cultures everyone is celebrating there cultures
I can hear all the people singing and all the floats driving down the roads. I can hear the people in the tents calling people to come watch the shows everyone is talking and laughing.
The carnival is so loud I am having so much fun I can't wait to come to another carnival there is so many people wearing cool costumes the shows in the tents are so cool I can't wait to come back

Pet day
This week we had pet day on Monday was Rata on Tuesday was Pahutukawa on Wednesday was Mamaku and on Thursday was us Totara. Most of us brought in our pets I brought in my dog but before Thursday when we brought in our pets we had to make a drawing of introducing our pets in Maori we also had to put a picture in here is my one.
This was pretty cool because we got to learn what some animals were called in Maori.
